Start with the court named on your citation. If the ticket says Clayton Municipal Court, that clerk can tell you whether Union County city court warrants touch your case and what step comes next. Clayton Municipal Court handles town traffic, petty misdemeanors, DWI/DUI, and ordinance matters inside Union County. Clayton Magistrate Court takes state traffic and misdemeanor cases instead. District Court is the separate felony route. Nothing here sits on a public sheriff roster. Before you pay a fine, seek a reset, appear, post bond, or ask for a cancellation, have the municipal clerk confirm what the court actually requires.

How Municipal Court Warrants Work

A municipal court warrant grows from one town case. It is local process, nothing countywide. Union County has one verified municipal court: Clayton Municipal Court. Its statewide jurisdiction covers petty misdemeanors, traffic, DWI/DUI, and ordinance cases. Miss court and a bench warrant may follow. Contempt counts too. Unpaid costs or a broken release condition can trigger the same bench warrant under the court's process. Municipal process is not District Court felony process, and a town warrant may be absent from public search results when municipal data is limited, so use the court named on the ticket and call that clerk before assuming the Union County sheriff has the answer. The New Mexico municipal-court home explains the statewide court role and its directory.

Clayton's Official Court Directory

The state municipal directory lists Clayton Municipal Court at 124 North Front Street, Clayton, with 575-374-8114. Write both down. Union County District Court and Clayton Magistrate Court sit elsewhere, at 100 Court Street, Suite 5. Call the directory first for court status. The nCourt landing page shows the same address. But it lists different payment contacts. Label the court-directory number and the vendor numbers separately. The official municipal-court contacts page carries the state's own listing, so treat it as the authority over any vendor page.

Municipal Courts Across Union County

Union County counts four incorporated places: Clayton, Des Moines, Folsom, and Grenville. The state municipal directory lists Clayton Municipal Court. It lists none for the other three towns.

A missing directory entry does not mean a Union County town lacks local enforcement or court process.

Union County Municipal Warrant Checks

Start with the state directory contact for a Clayton case. Check the court's Case Lookup entry if the matter appears there. Pay through nCourt only if the clerk sends you. New Mexico public access warns that payment resolves only financial obligations, so an active warrant still needs court follow-up in Union County.

  1. Read the citation and confirm that Clayton Municipal Court is named.
  2. Search Case Lookup by your full legal name or exact case number.
  3. Call 575-374-8114 and ask the clerk about active status, FTA, notice, and the approved next step.
  4. Use the nCourt contact only for the payment process the court confirms.
  5. Ask for written proof of payment and separate proof of warrant cancellation or a new date.

For Union County, the Sheriff's Office answers service and custody questions, not the municipal court's legal status.

Clayton Court Contact Numbers Differ

The nCourt payment page lists 575-207-0445 and 575-207-0446 as payment or contact numbers, plus 877-717-4645 for phone payment. The state directory master list gives 575-374-8114 instead. Neither page says which number belongs to the clerk, the court, the police, or the vendor. So call before you travel or pay. Ask which line confirms a warrant. Ask which takes money and which issues written clearance. Union County callers get further with that honest conflict than with one tidy wrong number.

Note: Keep the state directory phone and nCourt numbers labeled by source until Clayton confirms their separate functions.

Municipal Warrants: What They Show

Form 9-212C sets the fields used in Magistrate and Municipal Court bench-warrant process. Those fields do not create a public online roster of Union County warrants.

Court and case captionNames the municipal venue and case tied to the process.
Case numberMatches the court file and any payment screen.
TriggerFTA, subpoena, contempt, unpaid fines or costs, release condition, probation, or other facts.
Charging departmentThe form can identify the department connected to the charge.
Bond or payment routeThe court may set a bond or allow an eligible payment path.
Signature and returnJudge action and officer execution or return information.

Ask the Clayton municipal clerk which fields are public and whether the Union County warrant is still active.

Clayton's 9-212C Municipal Triggers

The blank form includes failure to appear as ordered, subpoena failure, release-condition review, contempt, unpaid fines or costs, probation conditions, first-offender-program failure, and other essential facts. The AOC procedure cautions that a Failure-to-Pay summons and some probation-reporting issues do not automatically belong in the FTA workflow.

That distinction matters when a reader says, “I paid the fine.” The clerk must say whether the court also needs an appearance, cancellation order, or new setting.

The criminal forms index links the blank process forms without publishing private values.

Municipal Case Lookup Limits

New Mexico public-access guidance warns that municipal-court data can be thin in the general search. Case Lookup does not return documents. It does not display juvenile criminal cases. Protected or sealed records may be withheld too. A clean result in Union County therefore does not prove that a municipal warrant does not exist. If the case is not visible, call the court named on the paper and ask the clerk to search by full name, citation, case number, or date. A narrow IPRA request can seek an existing public record from the office that holds it. It cannot create a combined Union County list.

Access rule: Search the public case path for a lead, then ask Clayton Municipal Court for current status and the court-approved clearance route.

When the Sheriff Page Has Nothing

Union County's official sheriff page posts no online municipal-warrant roster, no most-wanted list, and no warrant-specific request form. A city warrant may never show up there. That absence is not a clearance. Call the sheriff at 575-374-2583 for service, custody, or surrender logistics. Call Clayton Municipal Court for the warrant's legal status, payment route, recall, or reset. Know which office does what. The split keeps a town citation from landing at the wrong desk in Union County.

Clearing a Municipal Court Warrant

Ask the Union County municipal clerk about payment, a reset, a scheduled appearance, bond, or another release route. Clayton publishes no warrant-clearance fee. Nor does it post a walk-in policy, a bond amount, or any same-day release guarantee. Treat the nCourt page as payment-only until the court says otherwise.

Keep two proofs: retain the financial receipt and ask for a separate written cancellation, clearance, or new-date notice.

Hang up on any caller who says a bonding company is required. The Eighth District's scam warning is blunt: courts do not demand warrant payment by phone or email.

Clayton Court Scam Warning

Union County callers have hit a familiar trap: someone phones about a warrant and demands money fast. Hang up. Clayton's real court contacts live in the published directory, on the official court page, or the county page, never in a caller's ID. Ask the municipal clerk what the court record shows and which document proves the process is cancelled. If it is a Magistrate or District case, get the correct court first. Pay nothing until then.
